A Snail's Pace

Yesterday was a cloudy morning at our home, and if you live anywhere near here that means a glorious day. We had piping hot bowls of oatmeal with brown-sugar and milk to warm the tummy and the kids wandered in and out from the backyard.  With the lovely un-raining weather we decided a walk to both schools was in order, so we dressed and leashed up Pixie and headed for the road to Iain's school.  We took about 2 steps into the street when we spotted this little snail in the road, a very un-safe place for a snail.  Iain and Finnley performed a "rescue operation" and moved him into the yard to help him on his way because they knew that was where he was headed.

The snail was a source of interest all day going out to see how far he had traveled was the name of the game, as was asking every snail related question possible.  Trying to explain how and why a snail carries his house on his back is not as easy as it seems.

Watching this snail provoked all kinds of thoughts...especially about how fast our days sail by.  The kids escape to their domain in the backyard just as soon as they can in the morning, well before school interrupts them and I spend the day surrounded by yarn of all colours, cleaning, making bread and planning the days to come.  Remembering to take the time to actually see the world and the time that passes is a skill and one I am on the journey to learning, so much to learn so little time.

Some days I am astounded by the simple logic of children. Iain who will be 5 next week has long grown out of the daily nap, but some days he seems to know way more about what he needs than I do.

Iain sleeping in his "tent" on the sofa where he transplanted all of his sleeping necessities.

The day's haul, 2 beautiful loave of  homemade bread...I wonder how long they will last.
